Session Information

Portrait sessions are specifically tailored to the individual and no two are ever the same. A portrait sitting can be scheduled in an outside setting, on location in the client’s own home, or in a studio environment. The session can be fast moving and spontaneous, relaxed and contemplative, or anywhere in between.

All portraits are shot the old-fashioned way, using a medium format film camera that no digital camera can match. There’s no limit on the amount of pictures taken or the time it takes to do so. Shooting continues until both the client and I are satisfied. No more than one session is scheduled per day in order to insure that nothing interferes with the shoot.

Once the portrait session is complete, the film is hand processed with utmost care to exacting standards. Within a week the client will be provided with contact sheets of all the film shot during the session along with a few rough prints of selected shots. I will then work with the client to select the best shots for printing.

Final printing is also done by hand in a traditional wet darkroom with no digital manipulation. Each print is custom tailored for exposure and contrast and toned to bring out the subtleties inherent in each portrait. Due to the time intensive nature of the printing process, final prints will typically be delivered in about four weeks. All prints are printed on museum quality fiber based paper processed to archival standards designed to last more than a lifetime.
